When we build outdoor or bathroom heaters, the “IP65” rating is the big deal. It basically means the unit can handle steam and splashes without shorting out. But there’s a tricky part when it comes to infrared heat, especially if you’ve got kids or babies around. Standard IR lamps can be blinding. That harsh, bright glare isn’t just annoying—it can actually be hard on the eyes. The trick to safer light We didn’t want to just dim the lights, because that ruins the heat. Instead, we messed with the chemistry of the quartz tubes and added some special coatings. Think of it as a filter. We push out the aggressive blue light and the blinding glare, leaving you with a “soft-light” glow. You still get all that cozy, rapid warmth, but the light hitting your eyes is much gentler. It’s the best of both worlds. Dealing with the steam Waterproofing is a bit of a double-edged sword. While the IP65 seal keeps the moisture out, it also traps heat inside the box. To stop the unit from cracking or warping, we use tempered glass and high-temp silicone gaskets. One thing to keep in mind: because the unit is sealed tight, the outer casing gets hotter than your average open-air heater. Just make sure whatever wall or surface you’re mounting it to can handle a bit of heat. The honest trade-offs Here’s the thing: when you filter the light for safety, you lose a tiny bit of that raw, industrial heating power. It’s a small price to pay for peace of mind in a home bathroom. To make up for that loss, we just packed in more filaments. This keeps the warmth exactly where it needs to be. One last tip—give these their own dedicated circuit. They pull a lot of power the second you flip the switch, and you don’t want to be tripping breakers in the middle of a shower.
